Kidney Jing Explained

Jing is the primal life force in living beings. It is the deep foundational energy reserve in the body- the essence. Jing is the pool from which all other energies arise. It is yin in nature, which means it nourishes, gathers, fuels, and cools the body. Production of semen in the man, and loss of menstrual blood in women, place a high strain on the kidney jing.

Jing is subdivided into prenatal jing and postnatal jing. The prenatal jing is the inherited life force (our genetic stock), whereas the postnatal jing is acquired through food, liquids and the air we breathe.

Jing is a fundamental determinant of our potential for a long life. A person with an abundance of Jing will most likely be healthy, strong and resilient, and have a positive outlook and attitude toward life. He/she will be able to handle stressful situations without becoming overly drained. Jing governs the strength of our structural frame, hair, nails, teeth, our sexual functions, reproductive potential and our youthfulness.

Jing is consumed continuously in life by stress, substance abuse, over-use of pharmaceuticals, excessive sexual activity (especially ejaculation), inflammation, mental and physical exertion and emotional worries. If you experience combination of some of the symptoms below it is possible that your kidney qi levels are in need of a recharge.
